1. GENTLY CLEANSE YOUR FACE:

Most acne patients think they need to use harsh ingredients to strip away excess oil they might not wish to have. But all this in fact will do is the strip the client’s acid mantel and create a whole other set of issues. So be gentle and use ingredients such as lactic acid and niacinamide.

2. DON´T OVER EXFOLIATE AVOID USING HARSH MECHANICAL EXFOLIANTS:

As they knock the heads of most blemishes and only spread bacteria through other areas of the face. Clients are much better to use a chemical exfoliant that gently exfoliates the face and doesn’t risk the spread of bacteria. Look for ingredients such as lactic acid, d-pathanol, and glycolic acid.

3. USE RETINOL:

Also known as the buzz word of the moment vitamin A. This is a key product in combating acne production. It will help to dry the acne out and hydrate the skin at the same time so it won’t leave you feeling stripped with an impaired barrier. Accutane is a pure form of vitamin A that many doctors prescribe for patients suffering from grade 4 and above acne. It’s often linked with many different side effects so start with a topical retinol and notice the difference in the skin.

4. CLEAN YOUR MAKE UP BRUSHES:

It is imperative that this is done at least after every two uses. Make up brushes and sponges are breeding grounds for bacteria to build and form all sorts of nasty infections onto you beautiful skin. So remember always use an anti-bacterial soap and give them a good wash between uses.

5. BE CAREFUL WITH MAKE UP CHOICES:

Many makeups over the counter have acne triggering ingredients in them, such as colours, perfumes, and petro chemicals. So choose wisely and try to go for a mineral based make up with zinc, titanium dioxide and zinc oxide to help sooth skin and give the skin some anti-inflammatory benefits as well as bonus SPF.

6. HANDS OFF!

I cannot stress this enough!! Our hands are full of bacteria so make sure you wash them regularly and most importantly keep them off your fabulous face!! Imagine where your hands have been at certain times of the day … Touching money, public rest rooms, supermarkets and the list goes on (scary huh?) Hands off people!!

7. DIET!

This could be a contributing factor for some – high sugar and a high dairy diet have been linked to acne suffers. So maybe limit coffee and other stimulants for two weeks and assess if there has been much change in your skin. I bet there will be ;).

8. REMOVE YOUR MAKE UP BEFORE BED:

This is when your skin rejuvenates its self so if you have a nice clean face the skin will have a much better chance at doing its job correctly. Clean pillow cases are also important in this process. So if you are not doing either of these things start now and notice the huge difference it will make in your skin.
